Su historia se basa en las apariciones de la Virgen María a tres niños pastores en Fátima, un pequeño pueblo de Portugal, en 1917. Estas apariciones llevaron un mensaje de conversión, oración y esperanza, especialmente a través de la devoción al rezo del rosario. El mundo estaba en plena Primera Guerra Mundial, un período de gran sufrimiento y caos. Además, Portugal vivía bajo un gobierno anticlerical, lo que dificultaba la práctica abierta de la fe católica.
